Your hold is ready! (8. 21. 2022)
Hello all! As August winds down and I begin to think about getting back to class, it’s been especially enjoyable to disappear into books and writing. I’ve been holed up in coffee shops, reading books at record speed; after all, reading is way more fun than dealing with the news. I’ve also been happy to get feedback on my fourth chapbook, bugbutter, which is now up for purchase!
My editing life has been pretty awesome, too –– part 1 of a two-part special issue on trans speculative fiction, which I edited for the amazing beestung magazine, is now available to read! Not to toot my own horn, but it’s fucking awesome, and has multiple writers I deeply admire and am over-the-moon to have the chance to publish.
Also, on the editorial end, I’m still reading submissions for swallow::tale press, co-run by myself and my co-conspirator and fellow Mad creator, Feyxuan. Browse our bookstore and be in touch with questions and suggestions. We’re open to submissions from Mad writers of color only. Send in those manuscripts & check twitter for more info about what we like!
As for open deadlines: I’m chairing a NeMLA panel on Mad prose/poetics and narrative noncompliance, taking abstracts through 9/30. All, academic or not, are welcome.
Okay, now to the recommendations.
